Introducing Our October Forest of Fame Inductree

The Forest of Fame

October 2018: Kim Washington

What is the Forest of Fame?

The TreePhilly Forest of Fame is our latest initiative to honor the partners, volunteers and community members who have helped Philly become the City of Arborly Love. From organizing tree giveaways to becoming dedicated tree parents, these folks know how to leaf a lasting impact while greening their communities. Get to know our inductrees, and stay tuned for a new inductree next month!

Nominate the tree hero in your community by emailing [email protected]. Send us your name, contact information, and a paragraph about how your tree hero contributes to Philadelphia’s urban forest.

TreePhilly Forest of Fame Inductree October 2018:
Kim Washington

Why she’s tree-mendous:
It seems like trees and Kim Washington have always been Tree-FFs (tree friends forever). In fact, Kim’s been working with TreePhilly from the very beginning. She was one of our first class of community partners way back in 2012 when we were just starting to sprout. Mighty oaks from tiny acorns grow! With a forest-sized love for all things woody and perennial, her career has blossomed over the years. She’s now the Executive Director of the Frankford CDC, where she hosts her own yard tree giveaway in partnership with TreePhilly. Kim also played a big role in sprucing up a few parks in Frankford—Wilmot Park, Hedge Street Park, and Frankford Pause Park. We know how much the Frankford community appreciates her hard work, and quite frankly, so do we. Which is why we’re thrilled to have her as the October 2018 Forest of Fame Inductree.

Register for a yard tree at this season’s giveaway in Frankford or at one of the other community giveaways here, and learn how you can get involved with our program here.
