Plant a tree for a breath of fresh air!

Spring is almost here! Time to dig your hands into the soil, listen to the birds singing, and take a deep breath of fresh air as you emerge from your winter’s slumber. Read below for more details on our spring season of yard tree giveaways!

This spring there are four chances for you to plant a tree that you can enjoy for years to come. Choose from 14 different trees, including large shade trees, small flowering trees and fruit trees. 1. Do you have this program for Bucks County PA residents? I recently move out of the city and participated when I was in Philly.

      • treephilly

Hi Theresa! Great to hear from a TreePhilly participant! TreePhilly only operates within the City of Philadelphia, but there is a Bucks County Tree Tenders group through which you can get street trees. You can check here to find a Tree Tender group near you.

        Hi Matt,
Yes, our giveaways are only for Philadelphia residents so unfortunately we can’t give you any yard trees.

        Hi Deb,
Our giveaways on April 8th and 9th are full, but we still have space at the giveaways on April 1st (North Philly) and April 2nd (South Philly) if you’re available then. We’d love to see you there!

Would Japense Maple be included in the give away? I have a senior family member who has always lusted about them an i think this would be a wonderful gift while saving the environment!!

      • treephilly

        Hi Donna,
Thanks for your interest in TreePhilly! We are not offering Japanese Maples this season, but we have a variety of smaller flowering and fruiting trees available. You can check our list of available trees and see more information about them here.

    5. Leslie

      Hi there –

Curbed Philadelphia announced that these trees were for Philadelphians to plant in their yards or on their street. Am I able to plant the tree curbside myself as opposed to hiring an arborist to do so?

      Thanks!

      • treephilly

        Hi Leslie,
Trees from the TreePhilly yard tree giveaways are specifically to be planted in the ground on private property, not along the street. The Curbed Philadelphia article has since been corrected, sorry for any confusion! You can apply for a free street tree through the street tree office (more info here), or you can check for a TreeTenders group in your neighborhood.
        Best,
        Kinsey

    7. JB

      Oh NO!! I missed them!
Are there locations where I can go to see what was left over after this series?
      When are the next ones?

      • treephilly

You can come to one of our Arbrew Day events around the city on Friday, April 21st from 5pm-7pm! We’ll be giving away trees and beers. Check out the locations here.

    8. Gertrude Graham

I missed the giveaway this Sunday in Tacony! Any chance to get a tree? Are there any leftover?

      • treephilly

You can come to one of our Arbrew Day events around the city on Friday, April 21st from 5pm-7pm! We’ll be giving away trees and beers. Check out the locations here.

    9. Carol

Is it correct this is only available to homeowners? If yes, seems unfair. Please explain.

      • treephilly

Hi Carol, thanks for your question. TreePhilly trees are available to both homeowners and renters. Renters must get permission from their landlord or building manager to plant the tree on the property. The only other requirements are that the tree must be planted in the ground on private property (not in a pot or in the sidewalk along the street) and it must be planted in the City of Philadelphia.
