August 18, 2014 – We are excited to announce the winners of our Fall 2014
Community Yard Tree Giveaway Grants! Together with TreePhilly, these dedicated community groups are helping to restore Philly’s urban forest – starting in their own backyards.
Thanks to generous support and funding from the
Fairmount Park Conservancy and
Wells Fargo, TreePhilly will provide each of these community groups with 50 trees and $500 – a $2000 value – to host yard tree giveaways in their neighborhoods this fall. Giveaways dates and details – including for TreePhilly’s own giveaways – will be announced shortly. Please stay tuned for details!

Berachah Baptist Church is an exciting and vibrant church that has been in West Oak Lane for more than 28 years. Berachah’s mission is to partner with the neighborhood to consistently be a vital force in the community. They strive to use their location as a place where the community can hold meetings, be connected, and help neighbors resolve issues. Berachah is partnering with the
Philadelphia Urban Roots Collective to run their giveaway.
Esperanza is a nonprofit corporation founded in 1987 in direct response to the challenges and opportunities in North Philadelphia’s Latino community. Esperanza strengthens Hispanic communities in Philadelphia in nationwide, offering programs in education, community redevelopment, workforce development, capacity building, and advocacy through an integrated community development strategy.
Fleisher Art Memorial is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the vision of their founder, Samuel S. Fleisher, who believed that art is one of society’s greatest assets and equalizers. Founded in 1898, Fleisher’s mission is to make art accessible to everyone, regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience.
New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and
East Kensington Neighbors Association (EKNA) are two nonprofits working to revitalize the Kensington area of Philadelphia. NKCDC’s mission is to strengthen the physical, social, and economic fabric of the community by being a catalyst for sustainable development and community building. EKNA is a diverse group of concerned citizens who work to train community leaders and build positive relationships among neighbors, blocks, businesses, and institutions.
Urban Tree Connection’s mission is to assist urban, low-income communities to revitalize their neighborhoods by transforming abandoned open spaces into safe, functional places that inspire and promote positive human interaction. Founded in 1989, UTC’s roots are in supporting residents of West Philly’s Haddington neighborhood to reclaim and revitalize the many abandoned lots located throughout the community.
