60th Street Commercial Corridor Planting Project

ACHIEVEability and Global Thinking Initiatives, Inc. are partnering with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Philadelphia Department of Commerce to plant free street trees along 60th Street.

Trees help cool our streets, clean our air and water, and make our communities healthier. Studies show that customers visit commercial corridors more often, shop longer, and spend more money on streets that have trees. Studies have even shown that planting trees along streets helps reduce the number of violent crimes in the area.

60th Street has been chosen as a target area for free street tree planting due to the high heat in the neighborhood, lack of accessible greenery, and community interest. The 60th Street Commercial Corridor is on average five degrees hotter than the average Philadelphia neighborhood and as much as twelve degrees hotter than the coolest areas of the city. We are excited about the opportunity to bring cooling shade and calming greenery to 60th Street through this program that is fully funded and paid for by the City of Philadelphia.
