Philadelphia Parks & Recreation prunes mature street trees and removes dead and hazardous street trees as necessary. We also maintain trees in neighborhood parks, recreation centers, and playgrounds owned by the City of Philadelphia. Please note that we do not remove living, healthy trees, nor can we work on private property (including alleys).
Property owners are also welcome to hire a certified arborist to maintain their street trees at their own expense. Contractors must obtain a tree work permit from the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Street Tree Management officeby calling (215) 685-4362 or (215) 685-4363.Request StreetTree Pruning Report A Dead orHazardous Street Tree Request ArboristContractors List

Established in 1993, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Tree Tenders program offers hands-on tree care training in the five-county Philadelphia region. The training covers tree biology, identification, planting, proper care and working within your community. PHS Tree Tenders has trained thousands of volunteers who plant and care for trees throughout the region. The Organic Recycling Center in West Fairmount Park provides free mulch, compost, wood chips, and herbivore manure to Philadelphia residents. Residents can take up to 30 gallons for free each year. For a small free, residents can also drop off their yard debris (leaves, grass clippings, wood chips, brush, herbivore manure) at the Recycling Center.
