We’re launching the Community Yard Tree Giveaway Program, an opportunity for community groups and local businesses across the city to help restore Phillly’s urban forest and beautify their neighborhoods – starting in their own back yards!

TreePhilly will provide five grants worth $500 and 50 trees – a $2000 value – for community groups to hold yard tree giveaways in their neighborhoods this fall. Recipients will also receive event planning and promotion guidance, free mulch, and educational materials.

Spring Tree Giveaway Season Wrap-up

Thanks to all of you, we gave away 1,500 free yard trees to over 800 Philadelphians this spring! The demand for trees this spring was unprecedented, proving that Philadelphians are more informed about the benefits of urban trees and more excited about making Philly the City of Arborly Love than ever. We’re already working hard to meet that demand and plan our Fall 2014 giveaways, which will be announced later this summer. Stay tuned for details!

Thank You TreeHuggers and Volunteers!

Many, many thanks to everyone who came out to get a tree at the spring yard tree giveaways, and especially to those who volunteered to help!  This spring the giveaways were the most popular they have ever been, and we gave away almost every single tree.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@TreePhilly) to learn about upcoming events where we will be giving away the few leftover trees we have, to learn interesting tree facts, and to see tree pics that people are sharing of their new street and yard trees!

Fall 2013 Survey Results

THANK YOU so much for filling out our survey for the Fall 2013 Yard Tree Program!  389 of you filled out the survey (!!) – this information is crucial for helping us improve our programming in the future.

Some of you had great advice for how to improve:

  • “Include a pick up location in Roxborough/Chestnut Hill”  (look out for an event this spring at Gorgas Park!)
  • “Would like to have had a reservation for the tree that I wanted.”
  • “Gather volunteers to help elderly homeowners with tree planting.”

We take your advice to heart and will use this advice as best we can!

We also heard a lot of wonderful praise for our program:

  • “Every time I have participated in this program, it has been positively a delight thanks to the friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers.”
  • “Thank you for all that you are doing to help green Philadelphia!”
  • “This year’s give away was GREAT! The event as very organized and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Each year gets better! Wish we had a bigger yard for more trees!”
  • “We enjoyed the program and planted the trees with our grand-daughter – she spoke with your helpers and they told her that she can make muffins with the berries from the serviceberry tree,  she is patiently waiting . . .”

Also, congratulations to the winners of the raffle!  Deborah J. from 19131 and Claudia S. from 19128 will receive a fantastic tote bag from the Fairmount Park Conservancy in return for filling out the survey.
